Playful Penguin Card by Dot Leathbridge

 Hi everyone.
One of the good things to come out of the
pandemic is the reinforcement of how
so very special our friends are.

So this card is for all our friends, near and far.

Would you like to see how it was made?
I have a step x step for you.
And I made a little discovery that
uses masking (my favourite technique)
but on a gel plate this time.

The baby penguin, from Playful Penguins,
is the first thing to be stamped.

Mask off the baby penguin, stamp the mom, masking off again.
Then stamp the moon from Celestial
and the floating ice sheets from Playful Penguins.
It's surprising how many stamps are in this set.

I stamped the waves once, then masked the top of it
so that I could add the seal.
I wanted it to look like he is popping up out of the water
to say hello.
The seal is then masked and more waves are added around him
to create the sea.

This is where my happy little discovery happens.
I wanted to have the reflection of the moon in the water.
I decided to use my gel plate for this.
As the penguin is in front of
the moon then he needs a reflection too. It makes sense right?
He was stamped onto the gel press first and then masked.
Then the moon was stamped onto the gel plate.

As reflections are fainter than the real thing, I printed off
the gel press onto scrap paper before pressing it onto my scene.
I guess this is second generation stamping using a gel plate.
It's really easy to line up because you can see through
the gel press.

Now all I have to do is colour my scene.
I scraped some brushos across the water area using a baby wipe.
Quick and easy!

The sky is coloured with distress inks.
They have been swiped across the card randomly.

I stencilled some extra waves with distress ink.
And coloured the penguins in grey pencils.
It is night time after all.

To add a starry effect to the sky I've used
another stencil and white ink.

Words and a heart from Beautiful Words were added.
The card was trimmed down it make it cosier.
A little shading to the edges brings it all home.

And that is my card for today.

I hope you enjoyed seeing it come together.

Thanks so much for looking at my tutorial.
