An Autumn Tribute by Samantha Read

Hello, Samantha here today and I'm sharing a decorative hanging I made as a tribute to Autumn as it's my favourite time of year, it's not to hot, not too cold, the air is clear of pollen, humidity has gone and we're surrounded by wonderful colours, reds, oranges, and golden leaves.

I started with an 8 inch MDF round and covered the whole surface area with texture paste.

I then painted my autumnal colours when the paste was dry. This is the part where I always think: 'This doesn't look nice'.

The next step pulls the whole design together, using a stencil and white gesso I make the patterned background, of course I chose a leaf stencil because it's celebrating autumn.

I then used some lustre sprays to brighten the colours and add some shimmer.

Using one of the beautiful butterfly stamps from the Inky Friends set I stamped it three times, coloured using watercolours and inks and cut out.

Before adding the butterflies, to add some extra depth and detail to the background I used some gold leaf and the Carved Whimsy Wood and Weed love stamp sets. I also stamped in different coloured inks.

After adhering the butterflies in place I decided to add more flowers and added gold leaf to some of the petals. I cut them out and glued them in place as shown.

I used pads when adhering the butterflies to add a little dimension, to finish I added some string for hanging and highlights on the butterfly wings.

I do hope you like it, thanks so much for looking!

Wishing you a lovely day, Sam :)
