Something Wonderful Card with Distress Inks by Dot

Hi everyone,
I hope that you are all having a crafty few days.
It's my turn to take you through a tutorial and this time
we are looking at a few of my favourite things to do.

I had a friend in mind while making this one.  She is going through a particularly hard time.
We all know someone like that don't we?
So this is something up-lifting to help keep her spirits up.

Are you ready for the tutorial?
Grab a cuppa and here we go ...

Step 1:  The last thing to go onto the card is the very first thing I did.  Using Small Grungy Butterflies stamp some images onto an old book page.  I found this book at a used book shop many years ago and found the print in it a nice size for me.

Step 2:  Tear some photo copy paper so that it has a jaggered edge and pop it onto some white card.  Ink up the open space with light blue Distress Ink. Darken around the edges and along the torn bit.

Step 3:  With the photo copy paper still in place, smooch some of the same coloured Distress Ink onto a craft sheet and spritz with a little water. Using an acrylic block stamp some of the ink onto the background.  I kept away from the torn edge in case it bled underneath it.

Step 4:  Swipe some darker Distress Ink across a stencil and lightly spritz with water. Place this down onto the top corner and dab with some paper towel, while it is in place, so that it gives you a nice crisp image.

Step 5:  Did you keep the other piece of your photo copy paper?  It lines up beautifully with the first edge that you used. Repeat what you did with the blue, only using a light brown Distress Ink. I didn't use the acrylic block this time because I have something else in mind.

Step 6:  That's right ... you spotted it! I stamped some Old Book Page in random places while the photo copy paper was still there. Distress Oxides are great for stamping with.

Step 7:  Using a dark blue Distress Oxide, Twiggy Leaves (one of my favourite stamps) was stamped to create a border. I like to ink up the stamp and then add a little Black Soot to the edge of the stamp so that it has more depth to the image.

Step 8:  Stamp the words which are from Something Wonderful.  These are really up-lifting words. A white gel pen was used to go highlight the letters. If you have trouble with this, just go over it a second time and you'll be able to see the effect better. One of the new stamps this year, Bold and Beautiful was used to add a silhouette border.

Step 9:  Mat and layer your piece onto some card stock.  This is also where you add the butterflies. It always looks good when some of the stamping goes over the edge.  This is easy to do with a cut out image.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
We sometimes forget how much fun Distress Inks are.
Don't forget to play with the products that you might already have on hand and don't be afraid to mix your stamps to create the things that you have in mind.
