Eat More Veggies- A Fish Diet Journal Page

Hello, crafty friends!  It's Mary Szymanski here as April's Guest Designer! I'm so glad to be able to show you how I used the awesome Fish Diet Stamps to make this art journal page super fun!


I started with a 5x6 piece of Bristol cardstock that I had scraped white gesso onto and stuck down some scraps of drywall tape to.  I made an easy under the sea background by rolling blue and green acrylic paints over the texture with my brayer.  I added a bit of quinacridone nickel azo gold and yellow along the way.


I wanted to add some schools of fish, but didn't want to hand draw them, so I used gray acrylic paint through a 'v' stencil and added little eyeballs for some easy fishies! I used a black paint marker to make the fish stand out a bit from the background.


I added some other stenciling to the background with blue acrylic paint for some added texture.  Then I got to work on the fish skeleton.  I stamped the skeleton, extra bones and the sentiment onto Bristol cardstock with permanent black ink, and got to coloring!  I used purples, blues, pinks and oranges to make him super fun!  Then I fussy cut him out using fine tip scissors and an Xacto knife.  Took a bit of time, but so worth it in the final product!


I cut out the sentiment and edged it with Vintage Photo ink and placed it over a scrap from a veggie bag I had saved and painted with the quinacridone nickel azo gold.  The bag reminded me of a fishing net, so I thought it would be a nice touch.   


To make the "sand" I rubbed liquid embossing ink onto the bottom edge and tapped on some copper/ brown embossing powder and heated it to set it in place.  I glued down the bones, sentiment with the baggie, and the skeleton, added some crystal drop bubbles, and viola!  Finished, fishy goodness!

Happiness is a state of mind - Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone, Shilpa from the Design Team here. I am sharing with you a journal spread, for which I've used Rubber Dance Nostalgic Couples , Something Wonderful and few other stamp sets. Here's my procedure... To make the texture on the journal page, first I cut out this piece using a die. I adhered that die cut pieces on pages and applied embossing paste through stencil.  Let it dry completely.   To bring colours to the page I spritzed randomly with  Peacock Feather, Wilted Violet, Faded Jeans and Vintage Photo distress inks. To create one more layer I stamped circles and text on the page. In addition I applied colours from distress crayons to create depth. I stamped the Nostalgic Couple on another paper with black archival ink and coloured it with distress markers.   I adhered a few embellishments and ephemera and layered the lovely couple image onto it. Back from The Netherlands

Hello everyone! It's Bibi here today, typing to you from my new keyboard .... Isn't that speck-tacular?  But what does my "new" keyboard have to do with my trip to The Netherlands? Keep reading and you'll soon find out ... As our regular blog readers will know, I spent a week in The Netherlands earlier this month. The main reason I went there was so I could go to the ARTSpecially stamp show in Nijkerk to meet my Dutch retailer - Marian, who owns Hobbycompleet de Duif . But before that, my sweetheart and I spent some days in Amsterdam, one of my fave places in the world! The huge "I amsterdam" letters on the plaza behind Rijksmuseum (National Gallery). Any toursist with respect for herself will take 100's of photos of those letters.... I Wish I Could Art Journal - by Bibi

Hey everyone! I'm not sure whether what I've made for today can be called an art journal page or altered canvas, because it's really neither .. It's not a page in a journal and the "canvas" is a piece of cardboard, so... maybe it's a hybrid of sorts. No matter what it's called, here it is! And this is what it looks like with the guitar flap open: The reason why I made this .. "whatever it's called" .... is that I've had this bundle of guitar string-looking wire lying on the floor in my studio for some time. Yes, on the floor! (If you thought I'm a very neat and tidy person, I'm sorry to burst the illusion).
