What A Girl Wants Card by Dot

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone has had a fantastic start to 2020 and that you are ready for some crafting.

This tutorial is making a mixed media card which has many fun techniques.
This month's mood board has been my inspiration.

Have you got your cuppa ready?
Here we go ...

Step 1: Stamp out the image from What A Girl Wants.  A mask was also made on scrap photo copy paper.

Step 2: Wrap some cotton thread around your brayer and roll it through some paint.  I've used Dina Wakley paint, Buff, Elephant and Sky. I wanted to create some crack marks as they are on this month's mood board.

Step 3:  Place the mask over your image and brayer the paint onto your card.  I usually work with slightly larger card than needed and then cut it down later.

Step 4:  Although happy with the crackle effect from the cotton on the brayer, I thought the paint was a little sparce. So, onto plan B! I added the same paint to my gelli plate and loaded my brayer again.

Step 5:  That's better! I've rolled the excess paint onto a spare piece of card.  It will come in handy another day.

Step 6:  While my mask was still in place,  I've stamped the two small butterflies from Butterfly Trio

Step 7:  Masks were made for the butterflies and placed over the stamped images. Old Book Page was stamped randomly with Distress Oxides.  I've used colours from the mood board for this. The script stamping idea also came from the mood board.

Step 8:  My favourite leaves, from Crazy Flowers #2, was stamped around the girl and butterflies while the masks were still in place.  I used a blue archival ink for this. Why? Sometimes I think that I stamp too much with black ink so I was toning down the 'blackness' with blue.

This is what it looks like once all the masks are removed.  It doesn't look like much at this moment but it will all come together shortly. Trust me.

Step 9:  Out came my pencils! I have discovered that I really enjoy just colouring in. The colours are from the mood board. One of my pencils is white, which is such a handy colour to have in order to tone down any colouring that may have been a little heavy.  It also blends the other colours together.
The skin is from Tea Dye DI.

Step 10:  The hair and the dress have been stamped onto some patterned paper and cut out.  This was then paper pieced onto the girl.  A word from Journal Words came in handy as well. DI was added around the edge.  Then I've used DI to add some ink splots in random places. My favourite thing to add it with is an acrylic block. You could, of course, add splatters instead if you prefer.
