Things With Wings Fly Away, Card By Dot

Hi everyone,
I hope you are all having a crafty weekend.

Today I'm sharing a tutorial with you that shows my step x step thinking for a mixed media card that I've made.  It's important, I think to show you what works and what doesn't, and how it can be changed.

Here is the end result ...

I am having so much fun with the Mix a Sentiment set of words! The best part is, if you need the same words again you just stamp them again! It is so easy.  Sometimes I think it is the simplest of things that makes life so much easier.

Okay, grab your cuppa, and here we go ...

Step 1:  I love this bit, you just pop some paint onto your craft sheet and start finger painting.  A layer of gesso was put onto the card first as it seems to bring out the colours in the paint a lot better. Using white acrylic paint I've added some paint through a stencil.

Step 2:
It seemed pretty bright to me so I decided to add some gesso to tone the colour down.

Step 3:  I've added some more stenciling using the same colours that were on the base.

Step 4:  As I was using the colours of our challenge this month, I decided to add a reddish border with a brayer.  It looked shocking to me!

Step 5:  So I got rid of it with a generous amount of white paint. After this I went in with a baby wipe and let more of the underneath colour show through.

Step 6:  I stamped some images from Weed Love and Crazy Flowers #2 for the background. These lady bugs, from Things With Wings, have been capturing my eye for a little while, so I stamped where I would like the large one to go.  The reason for this is because I needed the antennae. It saves me having to cut around them.  I am going to add a coloured bug over the top of it.

Step 7:  Here are the coloured bugs!  They are simply made by swiping the stamped images through some distress ink on my craft sheet.  The reason I used Distress Ink, instead of Oxides, is because they don't cover up the stamped image.  Oxides tend to sit on top of the black ink.

Here is a close up of the leaves.  Again I've used the colours from our challenge this month.
I had a relaxing time colouring with water colour pencils. The same colours as the paint.

I liked how this has turned out.
It is always nice to have a couple of images going of the edge of your page, or card.  So I did this with the smaller lady bugs. All you do then is turn the card over and trim off the excess.
Words were added from Mix a Sentiment and some sketchy lines around the border.
An after-thought was to add a little more blue so a little blue Oxide was randomly added around the edges too.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how this came together.
Warts and all.

The lady bugs are gorgeous and look just as great on a card as they do on a journal page.
They are so versatile!
