Stamping with Paint - Art Journal Page by Dot

It's coming up to the busy time of the year
so it is important to remember to take some time for yourself
and have fun with stamps.

Today I'm sharing an Art Journal page that I made using paints.
As I was playing at finger painting I thought it might be fun
to stamp with the paints too.

To start with I added a thin layer of gesso to my pages, I tend to do this each time I use paints as it makes the colours more vibrant.

Then I added some more paint, purely because finger painting is so much fun.

I added a watered-down coat of gesso to tone the colour down a little.
Then came some stamping with Round in Circles and some stenciling.

A little more stamping, but this time I added some stamping with paint.
There are a couple of things to remember when stamping with paint ...

Firstly, spread your paint out on your craft sheet thinly.
It is easy to have the paint too thick and this leads to 'gluggy' stamping.
Sometimes gluggy stamping is okay, but then sometimes you might like a crisper image
so thinning the paint helps.
I would suggest that you might like to grab some scrap pieces of paper and practice first,
it gives you an idea of how it will look.

Then clean your stamp STRAIGHT AWAY!!!
Once it dries on the stamp it is difficult to remove.
This isn't so bad with a circle stamp like in this pic, but later I stamped with some words
so it was super important to clean the stamp straight away.

I have a rag at the kitchen sink so I just clean it with that.

I added some white paint to the corner and stamped the circles with black paint.
And coloured them in with a contrasting colour.

The words are from 'Something Wonderful'.
I've stamped it onto some tissue paper and added it with gel medium
You can see a tutorial for this technique here.
And some more stamping with paint just for fun!

I'm in the process of packing up my house and shifting
so the words were ideal for my page.

And this is the finished page.
I stamped some butterflies from 'Butterfly Trio' and carefully
painted some gesso around the images.
This made the butterflies stand out.

I stamped 'Old Book Page' with black paint it it looked great.
A little doodling, a few flicks of paint and the page is finished.

I left the other side of the art journal spread blank
because I thought it would be fun to add a tag there in the future.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this page come together.
Stamping with paint is something I highly recommend
that you have a go at.
It is just fun to do!
