Witchy Wants by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I'd like to share a little project I made for Hallowe'en. It's raining here today so the light was not great for taking photos but I think it makes it look even more spooky. I used two fun stamp sets, Little Witch and What A Girl Wants. I began by stamping out my chosen stamps and I then coloured them using watercolours. I used some MDF from my stash. I created the background using distress inks and sprays and also a stencil. I stamped some stars and created the moon using a Tim Holtz mask/stencil set. I added textured paste to the spider to give him texture. I finished by adding some inky splats, some pumpkin ornaments and some white highlights with a Posca pen. Here are the stamp sets I used; What a Girl Wants and Little Witch  I do hope you like it, for lots more fun and inspiration you can join the Rubber Dance Stamping Lounge on Facebook, right here . Thanks so much for looking, wishing you a lovely day, Sam :)

Butterfly and Blooms by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha with you today and I'm sharing with you a pretty item to decorate your home or give as a gift. I used a house shaped piece of MDF as a base but it could also have been square or circular. I bagan by giving the MDF house a couple of coats of white gesso and then stamped the large flower stamp directly on to the gesso. I stamped the butterfly from the Inky Friends stamp set on to white card. I coloured them both using watercolour paints. When the house was coloured I added a crackle glaze, to give shine and detail. I also added some iridescent shimmer to the butterfly wings. To finish I adhered the butterfly body to the house but used foam pads to adhere the wings so they were not flat, adding dimension to. I was going to add some text but couldn't decide which words, so decided not to in the end but it would look great with some words too! Here are the stamps I used; Sketchy Flowers #2 and Inky Friends For lots more inspiration and to join in our monthly challeng...

Moon Flower Garden by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I'm sharing with you a home decor creation. Those of you who know my art will know that the moon appears in it's various phases, on most things I create, not that I'm obsessed with it or anything! I remember being a little girl, lying on the grass with dad looking at the moon and I asked him if flowers grew on the moon, he said, 'they might do'.  I think the best art we create is art from the heart, so when I matched up the fabulously fun Sketchy Flowers stamp set with this MDF moon and the Mixed Media Marks stamp set with the stars and Cape Canaveral postmark stamp I couldn't resist creating a moon flower garden of my own. The flowers were stamped on white card and coloured with watercolour paints. Every thing else is acrylic paints and the finer details were done with Posca paint pens. And that is a tear of happiness, we can't have the moon being sad! Here are the stamp sets I used: Sketchy Flowers #3 and Mixed Media Marks #3...

Make your Art by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I would like to share with you this home decor, mixed media creation. I think it's nice to have bright colours around the house, particularly when the sun may not be shining, colours can lift your mood and make you smile, my inspiration came from walking in local woods. I began with the blank MDF and the stamps I wanted to use. The wonderful thing about Rubber Dance stamps is that all the different sets work so brilliantly together, so there's endless combinations. After a couple of coats of white gesso I worked out where my focal point would be and added the bright colours, they did seem a little too bright so I added patched of a very thin layer of white gesso, just to knock it back. Then came the fun part of creating the background. I added texture and details with stamps, the text and stars. Coloured the stamped images with watercolour paints, adhered them in place and finished by adding some inky splats masking off the focal point for maximum...

Something Fishy by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I'd like to share with you my tutorial showing how I made this ocean inspired home decor project. I began with an MDF fish shape, to begin with I was going to have my fish pointing upwards. I used just two stamp sets, the new AHOY set and a firm favourite of mine, Celestial. I gave the fish a couple of coats of white gesso and stamped my chosen images on white card. Then the fish changed direction as I was laying out the images. Using acrylic paints I painted the fish, I used the hanging hole as placement for his eye and simply cut out a circle of white card and adhered in place. Using a Crop-A-Dile I added two new hanging holes. I wanted to keep the stamped images white but added a little shading to the moon and clouds and a pop of red on the boat as red, white and blue are nautical colours. To finish I added some twine for hanging and some holographic flake paste to sea to make it glisten in the moon light. I do hope you like it, thank you for looki...

Moon Whale by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha with you today and I'd like to share a decorative hanging with you using Rubber Dance stamps.  I just love all things that feature a moon and underwater creatures rely heavily on the moon for so many things. I began by covering a 9 in x 4.5 in piece of MDF with some white texture paste. Using a circle die and distress inks in water created my moon. I stamped and cut out the clouds from ' Whimsical Summer ' and ' What a Girl Wants ' Rubber Dance stamps sets. Also one of the whales from ' Whale Wishes '. I arranged the images to be able to plan my background. I used distress inks and water along with some sprays to add a simple but effective background To finish, I clear embossed the moon so it could shine and stamped some stars from the ' Textured Feathers ' stamps set. I really like the contrast between the matt white and shinyness of the moon and background. I coloured the whale u...
