Card Making with Inks And Mama Owl by Dot
Hi everyone,
It's Dot here today to share a tutorial with you that uses Mama Owl and some flowers from a recent flower set that has been brought back into the shop.
Some of you might remember that I sometimes don't have a clear idea of how things will finish up, or even sometimes what stamps will come out to play. Sometimes I get side-tracked and just want to keep playing and fiddling. This is one of those cards!
My starting point was simply that I wanted to use some flowers from a stamp set that has just returned to Rubber Dance called 'Bold and Beautiful'. I love the grungy style of these flowers and how there are a couple of different flower choices and sizes in this set.
So ... here we go ...
Step 1:
This is where I swiped a little burgundy and yellow DI on my craft sheet, spritzed with a little water and wiped my card through it diagonally. Then dabbing the card and picking up the left over drips from the craft sheet. I decided to add a little more burgandy with DO's because my DI's were fading (I need a new inkpad I think).
Step 2:
This is where I swipe burgundy DO onto a stencil and spritz lightly with water. This seriously is one of my all time favourite techniques. All you do then is place the stencil down onto your card in random places and dab with paper towel.
Step 3:
You can see here the effect from the ink on the stencil. I wanted to show you this because I really wanted to put it aside at this point and keep it.
Step 4:
It was time to move on to the next layer. I've stamped one of the grungy flowers from the Bold and Beautiful set. I like to stamp some on the card, and some going over the edges. It just gives a different look to your background.
Step 5:
I wanted more flowers coming out of the yellow ink, so I stamped some flowers in yellow. The added some black detail to a couple of edges with another piece from this set. You might often hear crafter's talking about inking up around the edges to create a border? I've used stamps this time instead. I think that I've still created a border without the extra inking. What are your thoughts?
Step 6:
I decided that the background suited Mama Owl down to a tee! She was simply stamped and cut out.
Did I say that I like to keep fiddling - I've added some extra little flowers close to Mama Owl and up where the ink meets the white space. I was pleasantly surprised at how feminine the card came out.
Did you see how the yellow was a little brighter towards the finish? I came up with a new technique lol. Put some DO onto your craft sheet, spritz some water beside it. Wet you finger and then pick up some ink and add it to different spots on your card. This is a much more controlled way of intensifying the colour and it is still only finger painting! How cool is that!!! Have a go, you will enjoy it.
There you have it. A little ink and a lot of stamping. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and decide to have some fun with inks and Rubber Dance stamps.
