Cute Christmas card - Guest Designer Craftyfield

Hello Rubber Dance aficionados! Craftyfield here and I'm very honoured to be a Guest Designer on this blog! I love this month's colours and hope you will like them too.

I selected the Berry Bird as the focal image for my Christmas card. He looks cute and it makes a change from the usual robin!

I obtained the depth of colour on the Cardinal by using 3 layers of coloured pencils :
- for the lighter areas, a warm red (Vermillion), a darker cooler red (crimson) and a top layer of orange
- the darker areas of the wings and tails have been layered with the cool red, the warm red and then a delicate layer of black.

I should say that I used watercolour pencils, applying them as normal pencils just in case I decided later to add water, which is what happened.

For the background I embossed in WOW Blue pearl the 2 snowflakes from the Frosty Friend set and stamped the Happy Winter sentiment in black ink.
Finally I splattered some blue watercolour and iridescent medium.

I remember hearing that the Inuits have many words for snow to differentiate between all the types of snow they experience. Well, although there is no English word for it, we do have the expression "powder snow" and this is what I imagined then I saw the mood-board, that light, airy fluffy fresh snow. To replicate the look I settled on Fun Flock and maybe you can see where I applied it on the bird image. I also used the flock on the tree branches I imagined my bird to be sitting in, but as flock is not opaque I had to apply white first (I used gel pen but any opaque medium would work).

Finally I put all my elements together adding a scalloped mat which I embossed with WOW Blue Pearl) and popped up the Cardinal image on foam pads.

I hope you will like my creation and feel inspired to join the Rubber Dance challenge!
Here is the link to the current one which will run all the way through to December 31st.

Have a nice day,

Craftyfield
