Enjoy the Journey by Katy

I made a card for a change today, ideal if you want to wish someone a Bon Voyage. My base is the Valise die by Tim Holtz and I mixed ready-made papers with a variety of stamped images to complete the look. Below I will show you a couple of easy techniques I used with paint and inks to create faux textures on my piece.

Firstly the faux metal embellishments
Die cut the suitcase parts from cream card. Use the sponge top on a Distress Paint Dabber (Black Soot) to apply a mottled layer of paint to the pieces.

Apply a layer of gold metallic paint, watering the paint down to form a wash - I used DecoArt brand paint. Then apply a layer of transparent Quinacridrone Gold paint (again DecoArt) to make the metal look like tarnished brass.

Now the faux leather
Take the straps and handle die cuts, spritz lightly with water then scrunch up the pieces, folding in all directions.

Flatten the pieces and ink with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. The inks catch the creases and enhance the tatty look.

Other details
Lastly, in a stroke of luck the globe stamp fits rather nicely inside Tim Holtz's Movers and Shapers globe die! Cool!

The other stamped images are simply in Broken China and Fired Brick Distress Inks and Potting Soil Archival Ink and layered up to add detail.

To make the card stand up I simply took a second suitcase die cut and scored a fold at the top. I glued the fold to the back of the decorated piece to form a hinge that allows the card to stand. I added a second handle on the reverse to strengthen that element as it overhangs the card edge.

Hope you like my travel-themed card. See you very soon.
