Fungi Forest by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I'm sharing another page that's ready for my art journal. I shall probably use this page in the autumn when I go out on a mushroom hunt, I just wish I had a funky pink car like this one!  This was a lovely, fun page to make, isn't it magic to take plain white and make something so colourful? Here's how I began, by stamping the wonderful Rubber Dance stamps on to white card. I then made the background using three colours of acrylic paint and some brown spray, keeping everything very random so it has an organic feel to it. To complete the background and get my placing right I stamped directly on to the background. Then came adding colour to the stamped mushrooms and car. I used watercolours and coloured pencils. To finish I added highlights and details with Posca pens, some glitter on the road to make it magical and glossy accents to the shiny bits of the car and adhered it using foam pads so the shadow is natural and it really looks like it...

Make your Art by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I would like to share with you this home decor, mixed media creation. I think it's nice to have bright colours around the house, particularly when the sun may not be shining, colours can lift your mood and make you smile, my inspiration came from walking in local woods. I began with the blank MDF and the stamps I wanted to use. The wonderful thing about Rubber Dance stamps is that all the different sets work so brilliantly together, so there's endless combinations. After a couple of coats of white gesso I worked out where my focal point would be and added the bright colours, they did seem a little too bright so I added patched of a very thin layer of white gesso, just to knock it back. Then came the fun part of creating the background. I added texture and details with stamps, the text and stars. Coloured the stamped images with watercolour paints, adhered them in place and finished by adding some inky splats masking off the focal point for maximum...

Beneath the Moon by Samantha Read

Hello, Samantha with you today and I'm sharing a page I created for my art journal.  Autumn is my favourite time of year and I wanted to to make an autumnal page but not necessarily using autumn colours, I wanted bright colours to be a celebration. September sees and hears the return of robins to my garden, they greet me each morning singing their beautiful song, the moon always seems to look better at this time of year and I love to go mushroom hunting and there are still some lovely flowers to be found.  I remove my pages from my journal before decorating and will then rebound later when they are all complete, so the writing will be added later, so at the moment I have a lot of art journal pages with no journaling, lol. I began by adding lovely bright colours for my background. I always panic when I do this as they are very bright and I wonder how it comes together! Then using a stencil and white gesso everything becomes a little calmer. Don't worry if your page bends when w...

Bucket of Fun by Samantha Read

Image
Hello, Samantha here today and I'm so happy to be sharing with you this fun decorated bucket project. It could very easily be personalised with names and dates etc. to make a wonderful gift or keepsake to remember a special journey with someone special. I began with a plain white bucket and card. I stamped the images using a 300gsm card as a firm card is needed or the images will flop and curl. To make the insert for my bucket, I cut a circular piece of card and snipped in to the edge all the way around by 5mm, this lets the circle sit snuggly in the bucket. I coloured my Whimsical Summer and the lovely rainbow from What a Girl Wants stamps sets using watercolours. Whilst my images were drying I gave the bucket a couple of coats of white gesso, and then a final couple of coats of an off white paint and splattered the same watercolours all around and then added some lustre spray for a little contrast. Now this is a little fiddly, I added wire to the back of the stamped images and th...
