Mixed Media Collage material by Ellie Knol

Today's inspiration from me (Ellie) will be creating a basic surface for your stash to easily tear and use as collage material on any project.   What am I talking about?  Creating background papers for collage. I saw a You Tube video from Susanne Rose, the owner of Rubber Dance as you certainly know,  creating background papers on rice paper on the gelliplate.  I  had an 'aha' moment and decided to share this way of making collage papers.  Basically you need a very thin paper, rice paper, or even thinner: tissue paper. The better it collages without showing an edge where it gets decoupaged to, the better it is to use in collages.    I mostly chose background and script stamps as they can easily be used in a background as collage material.  **** To show you how I use this on a project, I've made a collage in an art journal with gesso and color.   Tear the paper to pieces, easy way is to use a thin wet brush and mark the line yo...

Paper Weaving Sketchy Flower by Ellie Knol

This time I'd like to share this technique I recently learned from a post by Karen Dunbrook :  Paper Weaving.  (I want to give credit where credit is due ) .. Thanks so much Karen for this inspiration! Start out by cutting/using up paper strips of about 1,3 centimeters wide and weave them to form the background ..  I chose to make it slightly larger than I would need, so I could just cut the unneeded part away. No need to glue he whole thing, as long as the edges are glued.  As I used regular cardstock strips, I needed to cover the background with a transparent gesso first, as the color will soak into the cardstock.   I chose to color the image with a ready made watercolor, to have more control of the coloring (from Ecoline and Dahler&Rowney).  I put a kitchen towel underneath while coloring the images to absorb any color that would go through the holes in the background.  To provide a nice backdrop for the weaved paper background I created a ...

Flowers Gone Wild Collage Cards by Ellie Knol

I created an A5 sized background onto watercolor paper with sprayinks to be able to create these two cards.    Stamping the images with a black ...  ... heat embossing with clear embossing, ..  ... and decolorizing the images with bleach, makes the images pop.  Adding background stamped images and script, tiny bits of color to the flowers, and white accents (acrylic marker and white splatters) finishes them off.  Have a good day, maybe a creative one?  Of course I'd like to hear from you whether you like my post, and furthermore: how you got inspired maybe? Thanks, appreciated. See you, Ellie Knol.    Rubber Dance Stamps: The Rubber Dance Webshop Flowers Gone Wild Art Defined Mixed Media Marks Grungy Sequins

I created a square card for you today!  I created the circle by monoprinting with Distress Oxide inks on a 10 cm round gelliplate.  The black stamping was heat embossed in clear, the images colored extra with regular watercolors.  Yes, I got a little carried away with drawing some circles, but I had fun.  The background was toned down with watered-down white acrylic paint, and along with stamping some sequins, I also added real ones.    Rubber Dance Stamps: The Rubber Dance Webshop Sketchy Flowers #1 Grungy Sequins Old Book Page
