Textured Mushroom Art Journal Spread by Ellie Knol

Image
I love making collages of stamped and fussy cut images onto gelli printed pages.  This art journal has been made with gelliprints that were not particularly beautiful on their own.  Using them to collage and stamp onto makes them very useful for beautiful backgrounds.  I hope you like it, see you next time!    Rubber Dance Stamps: The Rubber Dance Webshop Textured Mushrooms Textured Flowers  Sketchy Flowers #1 Grungy Borders Mixed Media Marks Mix A Sentiment 1

Paper Weaving Sketchy Flower by Ellie Knol

Image
This time I'd like to share this technique I recently learned from a post by Karen Dunbrook :  Paper Weaving.  (I want to give credit where credit is due ) .. Thanks so much Karen for this inspiration! Start out by cutting/using up paper strips of about 1,3 centimeters wide and weave them to form the background ..  I chose to make it slightly larger than I would need, so I could just cut the unneeded part away. No need to glue he whole thing, as long as the edges are glued.  As I used regular cardstock strips, I needed to cover the background with a transparent gesso first, as the color will soak into the cardstock.   I chose to color the image with a ready made watercolor, to have more control of the coloring (from Ecoline and Dahler&Rowney).  I put a kitchen towel underneath while coloring the images to absorb any color that would go through the holes in the background.  To provide a nice backdrop for the weaved paper background I created a ...

Watercolor a Sketchy Flower Tutorial by Ellie Knol

Image
Did you ever think of water coloring a stamped image by just using the stamp as the sketch? It's a lazy way of watercoloring lol .  Here's the very easy How-To:   1. Stamp the flower from stamp set  Sketchy Flowers #1  with a shadow ink onto watercolor paper. Stamp it on a piece of paper also with a darker ink to be a guide during the water coloring process, as some stamped lines might become a little invisible when adding darker colors.   2. Basically fill in with color one petal or leaf at a time, by wetting it a little with water with one brush and paint with another brush to add a base layer of color. Let the water do the work for you. Leave to dry.  3.  Add a layer of a warm yellow over the first layer of paint; this is called glazing. Make sure the yellow is not an opaque color. It will make the colors richer; blends all the colors a bit together too. Leave to dry. 4. Add depth to the images by adding a darker color of watercolor...
