Hey everyone! I'm not sure whether what I've made for today can be called an art journal page or altered canvas, because it's really neither .. It's not a page in a journal and the "canvas" is a piece of cardboard, so... maybe it's a hybrid of sorts. No matter what it's called, here it is! And this is what it looks like with the guitar flap open: The reason why I made this .. "whatever it's called" .... is that I've had this bundle of guitar string-looking wire lying on the floor in my studio for some time. Yes, on the floor! (If you thought I'm a very neat and tidy person, I'm sorry to burst the illusion). I've no idea where that wire bundle came from, and I'm not sure why I hadn't bothered to pick it up... but I've looked down on it from time to time, thinking I could probably use it for something, some fine day... .... and then, a few weeks ago a friend of mine was visiting, he pic...

Hi everyone! One of my favourite themes to create with is: beach and nautical elements. So today I'd like to show you a vintage beach canvas. You'll find the video tutorial at the end of this post. First of all I'd like to share with you some more detail images: I used several stamp sets from Rubber Dance on this canvas. I love that they can be combined in so many ways. Especially the new "Round in Circles" set! I can see them on my chrismas creation in the upcoming season already! I colored the background of the sentiment with Distress Ink "walnut stain". Then I sprayed water through a stencil to get a ghost image. I didn't use Gelatos for the tag. I used some watercolor pencils to add color, because they blend much better on a porose surface.  The chain on top is covered with Fran-tage embossing enamel "aged silver". Still lots of time to enter our April Colour Challenge with an amazing bundle of stamps up for grabs to a randomly selected winner and of course the honour for one person of being our DT Pick of the Month! My mid-month inspiration piece is a simple tag card using Rubber Dance's bird stamps and Flourish background. Hi dear friend of Rubber Dance Art Stamps! Nice to see you here. My name is Gabriele, I am a mixed media artist from Germany and a proud member of the Rubber Dance Design Team. Sometimes I create backgrounds, which I like as they are. I don´t want to change them, but they are still backgrounds and need just a little something to be completed. I tried out some colour mixes on the right side to get something near celadon – the lovely colour of traditional Korean pottery. I was just playing and had some watered down black paint which I put on the left side to darken it a little. Then on the left page I tried out some new paints I just bought, yellow and red. I liked the red not being so bright. Then some stenceling with black – the brush was too wet on the left side, well ok. Still no idea. Then I browsed through my stash of old newpapers and found this theater group. They looked like ghosts on the right side and with some arranging to and fro I had my final picture. And I ...

Finally spring has arrived here in the UK - now it's warm enough to open a window at night I was woken by birdsong this morning and yesterday I watched some baby bunnies scampering around a field. For me that makes it official that the horrible cold winter is gone! So to celebrate spring, I got out the bird stamps for this month's tutorial. I am probably biased but I really adore the Rubber Dance bird sets and I've found them very versatile.  So far I am doing OK with my resolution to continue making art journal pages - which for me are more about the art than the journaling but there is no right or wrong in art!!! For this page, I've adapted the technique Tim Holtz used on his February tag for this page - layering up pieces of patterned paper with element cut from the paper pad to create a collaged background.
