Hello everyone Debs here today with my take on this week’s Clean and Simple style, and I have a card for you using the stamp I designed, Hydrangea ! This really was a quick card to make and so I hope it inspires you to try this style. First I stamped the Hydrangea and dried it.  With a brush and clear water I painted around the stamped area. To this  I added my pigment (watercolour paints) and before it dried used a clean tissue and lifted off some of the colour. Next I focused on the stamped areas, again using my paint gave them several layers building up the shadows and highlights. Finally I added the sentiment. You can purchase this, and many other wonderful stamps from the Rubber Dance shop Hydrangea Take care and I’ll see you soon  Hugs xxx

How to - recycle packaging into Art

Image
Hi everyone Debs here with one of my how tos, and this week I’m focusing on recycling packaging. You know that stuff that comes in boxes along with your goods to hold it all in place. This pieces is 8x12 and about 1/2in thick, it’s not solid, as it has strips of card sandwiched between outer layers of card, and is quite sturdy. I gave the substrate a coat of white Gesso first to seal it, and provide a light hue base upon which to work. Wanting more layers of acrylic paint I chose Fresco Finish from Paper Artsy in mauves, blues and greens. I built up several layers of the paint and then with the end of my paint brush I added some scraffiti  And then dried it thoroughly with a heat gun. Next I used water colours by  Zig Kuretake GansaiTambi  in the same hues, and with my water gun made the paint drip and run. I then flicked on some gold, as well as adding some to the edges. I wanted the illusion of thick under growth and so used the leaves ...

How to create a Mixed Media Acrylic Clock

Image
Hello Everyone, Debs here with one of my How To projects, and this week it’s working on Clear Acrylic, which can be tricky, but so effective! I apologise in advance that the photos are not our usual quality due to the Clear Acrylic which reflects the lights and blurs the focus. So first, using the backboard I gave it a heavy coat of crackle paint and let it dry, then added Antiqueing Cream in Patina all over to fill in the cracks. To apply the cream,  rub in all over the surface you want filled and let it dry. Then with a damp but not wet cloth wipe it off. The idea is to leave the medium that has sunk into the cracks but wipe it off the surface. It can have a really aging effect, but is not permanent so I used a gel medium to seal it once dry. This also gave a great surface to stamp onto. Remember this is your very last surface and so acts as your background. I stamped the leaves all round the clock at the edges and then heat set it. Now this clock comes...

Art Journal inspiration

Hello Everyone Debs here today to share a page in my small journal. It’s a double page spread this time, which is unusual for me as I like to stick to one page, as I find stamping across two can be difficult, although not impossible. Please join me on my  blog  to get the details of how I created this spread. Stamps I used  Beautiful You Blossoming Rose Take care everyone  Hugsxx

A simple tag with crazy flowers

Image
Hello Everyone, Debs here with a quick and simple tag using some of the wonderful new stamps just released in the shop . 20 % discount till 31st of October!  I cut out a tag shape from heavy Mixed Media Paper and stamped my elements  I heat set the ink to stop it bleeding, and once it was completely dry I wet around the stamp elements with clean water.  I then added Watercolour paint (Sennelier) around the elements forming the background. I was careful not to go over the edges as I wanted to keep  The flowers clean. Once this was dry I added some distress ink here and there for more interest. I spritzed and flicked (first seen by Tim Holtz) with clean water which reactivates both the paint and ink giving interesting results Moving onto the flowers and leaves, I used Mermaid Markers (Jane Davenport) to add colour. I keep a pot of clean water and paper Towel close to hand to clean up any splashes of paint on the white. If you a...
