Birthday Card with Distress Oxides on Photopaper

Hi everyone!

Susanne writing today. I'm sharing a birthday card  with a special background. I used Distress Oxide Inks on photopaper. Before inking up the paper I stamped the Rubber Dance Bold and Beautiful Flowers with Versamark Ink. The ink acts as an resist against the Oxides and creates this nice flower background. I applied the Oxides onto my glass plate, spritzed them with water and dipped in the paper. I dried each layer of colour before I added the next one.

After the background is dry you must "clean" it with a babywipe to get these bright colours. I stamped the sentiment from the Rubber Dance Happy Birthday set. The cool cupcake is a die from STAMPlorations.

Thanks for stopping by today!
xx Susanne.

A Curious Cat - Inking Tutorial by Dot

Hi everyone,
are you ready for Christmas yet?
I think my shopping is done ... I think. My mum's birthday is on Boxing Day ... so my thoughts are turning to her. It's a great time because we just keep on celebrating for days lol.

This month at Rubber Dance we have a colour challenge using grey, pink and teal.  Or the theme of Embossing.
You will find the challenge over on our facebook group.

No automatic alt text available.

Today I've a tutorial for you using Distress Inks and Oxides.  Curious Cat has come out to play and I hope you see how easy a little bit of stamping can be.

Here we go ...

Step 1: Blend Distress Oxides onto your card.  It doesn't need to be perfect. We'll be adding more to the background so it will be well hidden.
The oxides have a beautiful softness to them which looks great on white card.

Step 2:  My teal colour in the inks came from Evergreen Bough. I've twisted a little onto my craft sheet, beaded up with a little water, and dabbed onto by card.

Step 3: I have wiped over a circle stencil with Distress Ink (Picked Raspberry) and spritzed with a little water until the ink beads up.

Step 4: The stencil was then placed down onto my card. While it was in place, I dabbed the excess wetness with a paper towel.  This will give you a clearer image from your stencil.  Remove the stencil. Let the ink settle for a few seconds and then dab with a paper towel.

Step 5: I've stamped some Weed Love with Oxides to add another layer.  This is such a handy stamp set to have. It can add some delicate detail when you need it.

Step 6: is finishing the background. I've added some tiny daisies from Textured Flowers, some tiny butterflies from Antique Botanicals and some black ink through a stencil in random places.

This background is a great one to use for any of your stamps. The colours look great together.

Curious Cat and flowers from Textured Flowers was stamped onto some white card and cut out. Some medium flowers were stamped onto some scrap card with Picked Raspberry ink on it, and cut out. All you need to do is attach it to your background and mat it onto any coloured card combo that you like.

The reason I used oxides first and then added the distress inks from a stencil to the top of it is because the oxides have less colour movement. Adding the distress ink on top would give a truer pink colour without going muddy. The distress ink is a brighter pink than the oxides.  That was the theory in my mind anyway, and it worked. The pink looks so beautiful on the teal base, it really took me by surprise.

If you were to do this yourself, then play around with different stamps and stencils. I think you will have a lot of fun with this.

Stamps used were:

Curious Cat
Textured Flowers
Antique Botanicals
Weed Love

Other Products used were:

Distress Ink

Happy Stamping!
