Stamping with an Acrylic Block - Card by Dot

Hi everyone,
It's Dot here with a fun tutorial for you using the 'Take The Plunge' and 'Playful Penguins' stamp sets.

The technique is using an acrylic block to create some quick and fun backgrounds ... and some masking.  I've used the acrylic block technique before which you will see here.

This card also meets the criteria for the challenge over on our face book group challenge.

Okay ... are you ready?
Here we go.

Step 1:
These 4 pictures show you the order in which I've stamped the images to create a little scene. These are stamped onto water colour card as I thought I would colour the finished image with watered down distress ink.

Step 2:
Cut out the group of images.

Step 3:
I've added some distress oxide ink to the edges of an acrylic block and spritzed it with water. The reason for using the oxides was because I was going to layer the colours and oxides are great for this.  The colours of the normal distress inks tend to blend in together.

Step 4:
Stamp the acrylic block, with the ink on it, onto your cardstock.  I tried it on water colour card first and it came out wish-washy, so I decided to use white card.
Dry with a heat gun.

Step 5:
I added some more orange onto the acrylic block and stamped over the print again as I wanted more interesting bits to look at.
Repeat with red oxides (just a little less) and then purple oxides (less again).
Remember to dry between each layer.

Step 6:
When I was happy with the colours I stamped the lady from 'Take the Plunge' onto the background.  The reason for this is pretty much about me being lazy and taking a short-cut.  I can't be bothered sometimes fussy cutting intricate things (like grass!).  By stamping the image onto the background meant that I only had to cut around a lady and penguins after my masking was done.

To finish I stamped some words from the Playful Penguins set, coloured in the lady. flicked some purple distress ink on the background and adhered the grouped image to the background.

Thank you for taking the time to see how this card was made.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and decide to give acrylic block stamping a try.

Happy Stamping!

As Bibi says, it's a totally original combination and a lot of fun! I love the technique too, I hadn't thought of inking only the edges of the acrylic block...Brilliant card Dot!
Stunning card and always love your tutorials <3

Beautiful card and great idea! I am being a bit dumb here (newbie) but did you stamp the lady on the card over the edges and then again on a new paper and cut her out and stick her over the original? Wow, did you understand that? Not sure I did!

Lol. There is no such thing as a dumb question in crafting Jacqi. Step one shows how I masked the images to build up a scene ... then cutti g the scene out all together. I stamped the lady i.age o to the background. She is a little larger than the o ked area so it went over the edges. I tgen attached to cut out of the lady with the penguins and popped it over the top. This way you dont need to cut around bits of grass.
